World Taekwondo to pursue Para Poomsae for LA 2028 inclusion. WT

The World Taekwondo has decided to pursue the Los Angeles 28 Paralympic Games programme for Para Poomsae athletes with an intellectual impairment.

The decision has come just before the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games which will witness Para Taekwondo Kyorugi featuring for the second time.

Over the years, the world body has focused on developing Kyorugi as a sport for the Paralympic Games and Tokyo 2020 was a major step forward in the sport which received several positive responses and high interest among the fans.

In order to achieve the new vision, the World Taekwondo will arrange a World Para Taekwondo Poomsae event following the Paris 2024 Games, utmost efforts have been requested for all members to participate in the event.

By the end of 2024, World Taekwondo will submit an application for Para Taekwondo Poomsae’s inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games to the International Paralympic Committee.

"We will apply for the men and women P21 and P22 sports classes. We ask our membership to already start registering your athletes in the WT GMS and sending us information on your athletes using the attached form," World Taekwondo said in a letter to its Member National Associations.

Meanwhile, Para Taekwondo Committee Chairman Usman Dildar commented on the development and said, that he is excited to share our efforts in developing Para Taekwondo Poomsae for individuals with intellectual impairments. 

"This important initiative focuses on the inclusion of Para Poomsae P21 and P22 sports classes, highlighting our dedication to inclusivity," added Dildar.

"I also urge our entire Taekwondo family and national federations to actively support this initiative. Together, we can create a more inclusive Taekwondo Community, ensuring every athlete has the opportunity to participate and excel," concluded Dildar.
