Colombia's Maria José Uribe remained in the fight for the medals of the Paris 2024 Olympics, four times from the new leader, Morgane Métraux, while Mexico's Gaby López dropped to nineteenth place.

Meeting the equator of the golf tournament, the Swiss Métraux took the lead from the French Celine Boutier, who, to the frustration of her audience, dropped to sixth place with a mediocre card of 76 hits (cuatro sobre par).

Métraux, ranked 137th in the world, flew into the second round with a score of 66 hits (-6) for a cumulative score of 136 (-8), giving him a one-shot advantage over China's Yin Ruoning.

In third place was New Zealand's Lydia Ko, bronze medallist at the Tokyo 2020 Games, with a cumulative score of -5, followed by Colombia's Uribe with -4.

For her part, Gaby López, who shared third place with Uribe on Wednesday, dropped to nineteenth place. The Mexican finished the second round at the Golf National de Guyancourt (about 30 kilometres from Paris) in 74 strokes (+2), leaving her eight strokes behind her and five on the podium.

Spain's Carlota Ciganda was another of the day's negative scorers, carding a 78 (+6) to drop to 47th on +7. American Nelly Korda, the world number one and defending her Tokyo 2020 gold medal, made an unusual quadruple bogey on the 16th to halt her recovery. The daughter of Petr Korda will be hoping to return to the podium with an accumulated -2 going into the final two days.
