France’s Althea Laurin was the home crowd's last hope for the gold medal in Taekwondo after 2023 World champion Magda Wiet-Henin lost her first bout on 9 August.

The women's +67kg category was the last on the Taekwondo programme and the fans in the beautiful Grand Palais arena went wild when Laurin defeated Uzbekistan's Svetlana Osipova in two rounds of the final fight.

Laurin, the reigning world -73kg champion and Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist, defeated 2024 European champion Lorena Brandl of Germany and 2023 world +73kg champion Nafia Kus of Turkiye on her way to the final, while Osipova swept aside Rebecca McGowan of Great Britain and Dabin Lee of Korea.
