Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu has been awarded the bronze medal in floor exercise following a successful complaint about the original allocation to American Jordan Chiles. This decision marks a significant shift in the medal standings for the event.

On 5 August, in the finals of floor, Brazil's Rebeca Andrade won  gold while the two Americans Simone Biles and Chiles were silver and bronze.

Romanian Barbosu, 18, burst into tears because she believed bronze was hers. From then on, a series of complaints began, culminating in the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which was announced on Saturday.

The initial appeal, lodged by Jordan Chiles, was upheld, allowing her to claim bronze and capturing the iconic medal photo. However, a subsequent appeal by the excluded athlete reached the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which ruled that Chiles' appeal was submitted past the one-minute deadline. As a result, the International Gymnastics Federation recalculated the scores and reclassified the medals.

The legend Biles lost that day the chance to make Olympic history in an event in which she was aiming for five gold medals and ended up with three.  She suggested an iconic podium photo as a tribute to her Brazilian rival and friend. Paris 24 official account on X/Twitter post it as a message of fair play in sports and Olympic spirit.

The revised outcome awarded the bronze medal to Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu. This decision sparked significant reactions. Chiles announced on Instagram that she is stepping away from social media to focus on her mental health, while her teammate Simone Biles praised her as an Olympic champion.

USA Gymnastics and the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee expressed their "devastation" over the ruling and urged for respect towards Chiles on social media.
