The handball competitions at this year's Olympic Games were very tightly contested but ultimately the men's event was won by Denmark while Norway took gold in the women's.

The gold medal in the men's Olympic handball event went to the Danish team, a country that historically never had that much success in the sport.

In recent years, however, they had established themselves as a force to be reckoned with after reaching three consecutive Olympic finals, With two Olympic gold medals and a silver medal in handball, Denmark now sits level with the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia and Croatia in handball gold medals and have only one less than France who has three.

The silver medal went to Germany who managed to overcome very tough teams such as France and Spain who they beat by a single point. However, in the final Germany suffered a humiliating defeat to Denmark who beat them by a difference of thirteen goals, the biggest goal difference recorded in an Olympic final.

Germany consequently picked up a bittersweet silver medal but a medal nonetheless and their first since in handball Rio de Janeiro 2016.

The bronze medal went to the Spanish national team who reached the semi-finals on the back of some impressive performances. It was the fifth time that Spain had made it to the semis and their fifth bronze medal, showing that they're hard to beat in the bronze medal match.

The French tea was a serious disappointment to many, losing in the quarter-finals against Germany having been expected to compete for gold and reach their fifth final in a row since Beijing 2008.

Egypt's strong showing must also be highlighted with their run to the quarter-finals particularly impressive considering very few people expected them to make it past the group stage.

In the women's competition, the gold medal went to Norway, who had a formidable Olympics defeating the likes of Denmark, France and Germany along the way.

Norway's women's team was indisputably the team to beat at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games losing only one match during the entire competition. By winning gold Norway maintained its medal-winning streak winning a medal at every games since the 2008 Beijing Games, totalling three gold medals and two bronze medals.

In second place was the home team, France. They put in some impressive performances but were unable to take gold after losing to Norway in the final and had to settle for silver.

France had to face historically strong teams such as Germany in the quarter-finals and Sweden in the semi-finals but despite missing out on silver, they will pride themselves on reaching the last three finals collecting two silver medals and a gold.

The bronze medal went to Denmark who won their first bronze and returned to the podium having won three gold medals in a row between Atlanta in 1996 and Athens in 2004.

There were some impressive performances from the likes of Angola, who unexpectedly managed to reach the round of 16, and South Korea, who also reached the round of 16 before being eliminated by Denmark.
