Madrid to host next European Kata Tournament. EJU

Madrid is set to host the fifth European Kata Tournament in 2024 on 7 September. The Francisco Valcárcel Arena in the Spanish capital will serve as a platform for athletes preparing for the 2024 World Judo Championships Kata in Las Vegas in November, the European Judo Federation (EJF) announced.

Seniors will compete in the categories of Nage-no-Kata, Katame-no-Kata, Ju-no-Kata, Kime-no-Kata and Kodokan-Goshin-Jutsu. Juniors will do it in Nage-no-Kata (5 sets - all Kata), Katame-no-Kata (3 sets - all Kata) and Ju-no-Kata (2 first sets). Cadet's will compete in one category only - Nage-no-Kata (3 sets - Te Waza, Koshi Waza and Ashi Waza).

The current version of the IJF Criteria for Kata Evaluation 2024 will be used to judge the Kata with reference also to the official Kodokan edition of the textbook. The first four European Kata Tournaments in 2024 were held in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium on 24-25 February, Pordenone, Italy on 23-24 March, Reims, France on 13 April and Radom, Poland on 11 May.

On 10 and 11 June, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina hosted the 2024 European Individual Kata Championships. 306 judokas from 20 nations competed in the tournament. Before the 2024 World Kata Championships, another European Kata tournament will be held in Maintal, Germany on 5 October.
