Tunisia's Raoua Tlili won her fifth consecutive gold medal in the shot put at her fifth Paralympic Games with a throw of 10.40 metres. She beat K. Khakimova (Uzbekistan), who threw 10.36 metres, and A. Ruiz Diaz (Argentina), who threw 9.58 metres, for the silver and bronze medals respectively.

The Tunisian repeated her success on Friday in her five Paralympic Games appearances, winning the F41 category with a throw of 10.40 metres. At Rio 2016 and London 2012, she also won medals in the discus.

The event took place at the Stade de France, where she secured victory in the F41 category for the third Games in a row. She stands 1.33 metres tall and is 34 years old. Her achievements are all the more remarkable when you consider that she is competing against opponents who are often taller and probably younger. Tlili competes in the category reserved for athletes under 137cm tall.

Her success was celebrated by the spectators on the track. Tlili celebrated her gold medal on the French stadium track alongside her two fellow podium finishers: Khakimova from Uzbekistan, who was close to the Tunisian in the race for the gold medal, and A. Ruiz Diaz from Argentina, who fell behind in the fight for victory but secured a bronze medal for Argentina.

At the age of 34, Tlili is determined to continue the medal winning streak that has made her a benchmark in Paralympic sport. She already has her eye on the next Paralympic Games in 2028. In addition to her shot put titles, she has also won the discus, bringing her total to ten world titles.

Her triumphs are approaching the level of legends in the history of Para-African sport, such as the South African swimmer Natalie du Toit (15 medals, 13 of them gold, between 2004 and 2012).

"She is a role model for me," Tlili said, according to RFI. "I am very proud. My name is now among legends who have sacrificed a lot and worked hard. I am following in the footsteps of great stars. Besides, it is not easy to win medals as a woman from the Arab world. I changed my attitude," she said.

Tlili is one of Tunisia's most famous athletes. After her performances at Rio 2016, she began to attract media attention. The shot putter has always expressed her frustration at the lack of media coverage for Paralympic athletes, but as she has continued to rack up wins and medals, that trend has started to change.

Tlili was delighted to see so many fans from Tunisia at the Paris stadium last Friday to support her performance. The applause during her event made her feel elated. She will have another chance to extend her winning streak in the discus on Wednesday 4 September.
