Kim_Thrasher_Parker_18-08-11August 18 - American Kim 'Thrasher' Parker (pictured) has been appointed as the Public Relations Director for Lay Witnesses for Christ International at London 2012.

The former gymnast is heading the publicity for its Bridging the Gap UK 2012 Outreach project during next Summer's Olympics.

Parker, a member of the 2012 Athletes Executive Committee, will be correlating media and press releases.

She will be directly accountable to Lay Witnesses for Chris International's International Operations Director, Mary Thompson, as well as the 2012 International Media Chairman Dr Mark Tronson from Australia.

The programme is being led by nine-time Olympic gold medallist Carl Lewis.

Parker was an elite-level gymnast and although an injury at 15 ended her Olympic dreams, she went on to finish her high school years by setting a new record as the first high school gymnast to win the Texas State Championship for three years in a row.

She earned All-American status in every event for those three years, and she had the highest National All-Around average score.

These honours and her athletic ability earned her a full athletic gymnastics scholarship to the prestigious Penn State University, where she reached All-American status.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Child/Human Development, she moved to Chicago where she coached young gymnastic prodigies.

She and her husband Colin now run their global marketing company, Red Giraffe.
