Boxing names Podium and Development Squads for London 2012

January 29 – The British Amateur Boxing Association (BABA) has announced a provisional 21-man Podium Squad and an 11-man Development Squad as part of its selection process for the GB Boxing team that will compete at the 2012 Olympics at the ExCeL [pictured] in London.





Planning for rugby sevens Olympic debut officially underway

January 28 - Planning for rugby sevens' debut at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro has started in earnest as the International Rugby Board (IRB) President Bernard Lapasset (pictured here with Jacques Rogge) and his team travelled to Lausanne for meetings with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF).

UK Athletics declare 2010 Year of the Coach

January 28 - UK Athletics have announced that 2010 will be "Year of the Coach", celebrating, recognising and communicating to and about athletics coaches in the UK to highlight their expertise and hard work to bring success to competitors across the country, so that they receive the kind of recognition that football managers like Manchester United's Sir Alex Ferguson (pictured) do regularly.

Minichiello needs eye surgery to keep Olympic dream in focus

January 27 - Nicola Minichiello (pictured), one of Britain’s best medal hopes at the Winter Olympics which start in Vancouver on February 12, will require further laser surgery to her eye today to correct her vision following inflammation of the retina which left her virtually blind on one side while bobsled racing in Italy in November.


Kumar furious at Indian award snub

January 25 - Sushil Kumar (pictured), India's Olympic wrestling bronze medallist, has hit out at the Government after again being overlooked for for the Padma Shri, an award given to honour outstanding achievements by the country's top sportsmen and women.
