Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has made his debut at the Paris Olympics with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Lebanon's Hady Habib to advance to the second round.

The men's tennis doubles event in Paris is highlighting the Spanish pair of Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal. Notably, they were featured at the opening ceremony as one of the final torchbearers before the ceremonial burning of the pepper.

Rafael Nadal, the Spanish tennis legend, returns to the court that has been magical throughout his career, having won the Roland Garros tournament 14 times. He is set to compete in the men's doubles with Carlos Alcaraz. However, a thigh injury will unfortunately prevent him from participating in the singles event, marking his farewell to the Games in that category.

British tennis player Andy Murray has opted out of the singles tournament at the Olympics due to back issues. He will partner with compatriot Dan Evans in what will be his final competition as a professional. Murray is the only player to have won two singles gold medals in Olympic history.

The tennis competition at the Paris Olympics has lost two of its hopefuls, the Italian Jannik Sinner and the Danish Holger Rune. In both cases it has been for health reasons: Sinner for tonsillitis and Rune for an injury to the thumb. The Olympic Tennis Games are held at the legendary Roland Garros in Paris on Saturday, the day after the opening ceremony.
