Tadej Pogacar not only won the 2024 Tour de France on Sunday, adding a third overall title to his 2020 and 2021 crowns. He also put on an exhibition for three weeks, leaving his rivals unable to challenge him on any terrain.

Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar, dubbed the alien, triumphed on Saturday at the summit of the Col de Couillole, the final stage in the Alps. He will be aiming to do the same in the final time trial in Nice on Sunday. Pogacar finished alongside Jonas Vingegaard but won with ease. At 26, he could become the first rider to complete the Giro-Tour double.

The Slovenian rider extended his lead to more than three minutes in the second Pyrenees stage, which finished on the Plateau de Beille. He launched a fierce attack on his main rival on the final climb. Pogacar secured his second consecutive victory, his 14th at the age of 25, and effectively sealed the Tour with a week to go.

Tadej Pogacar repeated on Saturday what he did in the Alps. He attacked on the climb to the Pla d'Adet to win stage 14, beating Vingegaard by 39 seconds and Evenepoel by 1:10. There's another date with the high mountains on Sunday, with the finish on the Plateau de Beille.

The Slovenian is leading the French race after the first nine stages. He leads Remco Evenepoel by 33 seconds and Jonas Vingegaard by 1:15 after dominating the Galibier summit. The first week also saw Cavendish break the record for Tour victories. Eritrea's Girmay was also confirmed.

The Danish rider left the Grand Boucles after a week of competition "to focus on other goals". He injured his shoulder in a crash on the fifth stage and decided to prepare for the Olympic road race at home.

At the age of 39 and after a difficult period, the British sprinter beat the best sprinters in the fifth stage of the 2024 Tour. In doing so, he surpassed the legendary Belgian in stage wins in the Grand Boucle. He equalled the record in 2021, but has faced many difficulties since then. He finally did it.

The Slovenian attacked in the final kilometre of the Alpine giant, with only Vingegaard close behind. He crested the summit with an 8-second lead, but on the descent he extended his advantage to 50 seconds over his main rival. Pogacar attacked first and the Dane couldn't keep up. Behind them, Ayuso, Rodríguez and Evenepoel remained in the lead group.

The Grand Boucle will start this Saturday in Florence and, for the first time in its history, will end outside the gates of Paris. The best version of Pogacar will face the uncertainty of defending champion Vingegaard, who is coming back from a serious crash in April. 21 stages, 3,498 kilometres, two crossings of the Alps and a final time trial in Nice. Next Saturday's Grand Boucle will see a duel between the Slovenian with two victories and the Dane with two. Pogacar will be in top form and aiming for a Giro-Tour double. Vingegaard, on the other hand, is recovering from a serious crash. For the first time, the Tour starts in Italy and doesn't end in Paris. Everything is new in the world's greatest race after 11 editions.

The reigning champion of the French race has confirmed through a statement from his team, Visma-Lease, that he has overcome the effects of the serious crash he suffered in April. He will race to defend his title. "I feel good and very motivated," confirmed the Danish rider.

The talented Ineos rider will compete in the road race at the Olympic Games, the Colombian cycling federation has confirmed. Bernal suffered a serious crash in 2022 that put a stop to his spectacular progress. He has now recovered and will race the Tour de France before the Olympics. He will share the team with Daniel Felipe Martínez.

The Slovenian held off Matteo Jorgenson's attack in the final stage on Sunday to win the French race by eight seconds, a crucial test before the Grand Boucle, the main target of the season. The race's other star, Remco Evenepoel, faded to seventh overall.

Half of the peloton, including race leader Remco Evenepoel and his main rival Primoz Roglic, crashed out of the fifth stage of the French race. The lack of ambulances to evacuate the injured forced the stage to be neutralised for the remaining kilometres. Fortunately there were no serious injuries.

This summer's Olympic Games won't feature the two-time Tour de France winner. Neither in the road race nor the time trial. He crashed badly in the Tour of the Basque Country two months ago. His form was questionable and Denmark didn't select him. Now he's pushing to make it to the 'Grande Boucle'.
