Simone Biles continued her march toward the Paris Olympics on Friday with a dynamic day one at the US gymnastics trials that featured brilliance and a little reminder that she's human, too. The four-time Olympic gold medallist thrilled the Target Center crowd with her signature Yurchenko double pike vault, now also known as the Biles II. She earned 15.975 points for the vault which no other woman has attempted in competition.

Malaysian officials agreed Friday to redesign some of the country's kit for next month's Paris Olympics after fans derided the outfits as "ugly" and "cheap looking". Controversy erupted when the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) unveiled the gold-themed outfits featuring a tiger-stripe design last weekend.

Skye Blakely is missing this week’s Olympic Trials after rupturing her right Achilles on Wednesday during practice. The 19-year-old top contender sustained the injury while practising a tumbling pass on floor exercise at the trial’s venue in Minneapolis. Blakely received medical attention and was later carried off the podium by staff, leaving the arena in a wheelchair.

The Olympic Torch continues its adventure in the heart of Europe and the people of Moselle celebrated its return. Metz had already rolled out the red carpet for the Torch 32 years ago, on 4 January 1992, before the Winter Olympics in Albertville. 

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games will mark a historic milestone, finally achieving gender parity in athlete participation 128 years after the modern era began in Athens in 1896.

Commonwealth Sport Canada (CSC) has announced the recipients of this year's Sport Awards (CCSA), who will be honoured at a banquet in Ottawa on 21 September. The award is presented to a Canadian SportWORKS officer who has made a significant contribution to the development of sport.

The Olympic Torch Relay continued through eastern France with a distinctly European flavour. As well as showcasing the treasures of Alsace, it also highlighted the fraternity between peoples with an exceptional Team Relay on the Pont des Trois États in Huningue. A second, organised by the French Judo Federation, took place in Strasbourg before football legend Arsène Wenger lit the cauldron.

Nearly 500 rooms, beds 2.20 meters long: the Lille Olympic Village, which will host the basketball and handball delegations during the Olympic Games, has been inaugurated in Villeneuve d'Ascq, northern France. 

The European Senior Fencing Championships have come to an end, with 12 individual and team events for men and women in the disciplines of epee, foil and sabre. The event took place in the St. Jakobshalle, with fencers from 38 countries taking part.

The second and final stop of the Olympic Qualifier Series (OQS) concluded this weekend in Budapest with more than 150 athletes clinching their Paris Olympics berths in BMX freestyle, breaking, skateboarding and sport climbing. Over 450 athletes from more than 120 national federations competed in the popular urban sports to crowds of young spectators in the four-day, festival-style event.
