With 50 days to go until the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) announced on Tuesday, 9 July, the eight athletes and one support runner who will compete as part of the largest ever Refugee Paralympic Team.  The Paralympic Opening Ceremonywill take place on the Champs-Elysees and Place de la Concorde in Paris on 28 August.

Internationally renowned choreographer Alexander Ekman has been selected as Stage and Choreography Director of the Opening Ceremony of the Paralympic Games Paris 2024 that will see thousands of Para athletes from 180 international delegations parade down the legendary Avenue des Champs-Elysées to the Place de la Concorde on 28 August. Thomas Jolly, artistic director of the ceremonies, has brought in the Swedish choreographer to shake up the traditions of the event and Ekman has chosen to place dance at the heart of the show.

A four-day para-taekwondo camp for 30 top international referees selected for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games took place in Santorini, Greece from 24-27 April.

Following the Pan American Taekwondo Qualification Tournament in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic hosted the Paralympic Qualification Tournament on 11 April.

The European Para-Taekwondo Qualification Tournament for the Paris 2024 Paralympics took place on 8th February in Sofia, Bulgaria. Winners in 10 weight categories qualified for Paris 2024.

USA Paralympic taekwondo athlete Evan Medell won bronze at Tokyo 2020, but the tournament ended in frustration for him. He broke his leg early in his semi-final bout against Croatia's Ivan Mikulic and now his dream is to win Paralympic gold in Paris, Team USA reports.

The first qualifying tournament of the year has started in Dakar, Senegal. On 9 February, the Para-Taekwondo qualifying tournament took place.

The sport's second appearance at the Paralympics promises high-quality action with 25 nations from four continents already qualified. Türkiye will field a maximum of eight athletes.

International Paralympic Committee (IPC) President Andrew Parsons was today awarded an honorary 9th dan Taekwondo black belt certificate by World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue at the federation’s headquarters in Seoul.

A turkish para taekwondo athlete,  European and World Champion Meryem Betül Çavdar wants to change the colour of his Olympic medal in Paris 2024. Çavdar reached the final in Tokyo 2020 and took the silver medal. 

Taekwondo competition made its debut in the South American Games for the deaf people. From 14-18 December, the 2nd Pan American Games for the deaf people is taking place in Ecuador’s Guayaquil. 

Team Mexico secured five places from six for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games Taekwondo tournament during the World Taekwondo Grand Prix Final 2023 in Manchester. Jessica García (52 kg), Claudia Romero (47), Fernanda Vargas (+67), Luis Mario Nájera (80 kg) and reigning Paralympic champion Juan Diego García (70 kg) were among the best six athletes in their weight categories, which allowed them to qualify for Paris 2024.
