The USA's sunny city of Orlando wants to bring more international sporting events to its region —including an eventual Florida Olympics. Home to Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort, the central Florida city hopes to make a name for itself in the sporting world as well.

Transgender and nonbinary runner Nikki Hiltz qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, clocking in a time of 3:55:33 in the women’s 1500m race at the US Olympic Trials Sunday: breaking Elle St. Pierre’s trials record of 3:58.03, set in 2021. Hiltz is not the first transgender non-binary person to compete at an Olympics  —Canadian football player Quinn, who competed at Tokyo 2020, was the first openly transgender and nonbinary athlete to participate and win a medal at the Games.

Noah Lyles won the final of the 200-metre dash Saturday, which will allow him to fight for the speed double at the Paris Games, as Sha'Carri Richardson's dreams of an Olympic sprint double ended in disappointment at the US trials. The world champion of the 100m had looked poised to claim at least a top-three finish in the women's 200m after the Texan had shone in the semifinals on Friday with a time of 21.92.

Three-time world champion Grant Holloway punched his ticket to the Paris Olympics on Friday in the 110m hurdles at the US trials, while Noah Lyles and Sha'Carri Richardson cruised into the 200m finals. Holloway won the 110 hurdles final in 12.86secs, the fastest time in the world this year, with Freddie Crittenden second in a personal best 12.93 and Daniel Roberts third in a personal best 12.96.

Skye Blakely is missing this week’s Olympic Trials after rupturing her right Achilles on Wednesday during practice. The 19-year-old top contender sustained the injury while practising a tumbling pass on floor exercise at the trial’s venue in Minneapolis. Blakely received medical attention and was later carried off the podium by staff, leaving the arena in a wheelchair.
