The USA's sunny city of Orlando wants to bring more international sporting events to its region —including an eventual Florida Olympics. Home to Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort, the central Florida city hopes to make a name for itself in the sporting world as well. 

Transgender and nonbinary runner Nikki Hiltz qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, clocking in a time of 3:55:33 in the women’s 1500m race at the US Olympic Trials Sunday: breaking Elle St. Pierre’s trials record of 3:58.03, set in 2021. Hiltz is not the first transgender non-binary person to compete at an Olympics  —Canadian football player Quinn, who competed at Tokyo 2020, was the first openly transgender and nonbinary athlete to participate and win a medal at the Games. 

After impressing at the recent U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon, 16-year-old Quincy Wilson will have the chance to do it again in Paris this summer after being selected for the relay team of the world's leading sporting power.

There was high drama at the the UK Athletics Championships and Olympic Trials in a very rainy Manchester on Sunday. Dina Asher-Smith claimed the women’s 200m title with a time of 22.18 on 30 June. Daryll Nieta finished second at 22.46, and Amy Hunt took third with 22.78.

Noah Lyles won the final of the 200-metre dash Saturday, which will allow him to fight for the speed double at the Paris Games, as Sha'Carri Richardson's dreams of an Olympic sprint double ended in disappointment at the US trials. The world champion of the 100m had looked poised to claim at least a top-three finish in the women's 200m after the Texan had shone in the semifinals on Friday with a time of 21.92. 

Shilese Jones withdrew from the US Olympic gymnastics trials on Saturday, a day after she injured her left knee on a warm-up vault and had to opt out of three apparatus. Jones, a world championships bronze medallist last year, landed awkwardly on the vault shortly before competition began and limped off with the help of her coach.

Two-time reigning world 200m champion Shericka Jackson delivered the fastest time in Saturday's qualifying heats in the event at the Jamaican Olympic trials. A day after winning the 100m crown to qualify for the Paris Olympics, Jackson had the best heat time in season-best 22.67secs (-0.9 m/sec wind) at the national stadium in Kingston. Jackson is a major favourite to win the 200 final on Sunday.

Kishane Thompson won the men's 100m in 9.77secs, the fastest time in the world this year, and Shericka Jackson dominated the women's 100m final on Friday at the Jamaican Olympic athletics trials. Thompson, with a wind of 0.9m/sec, took the title in Kingston with Oblique Seville second in 9.82 and Ackeem Blake third in 9.92 to book their trips to the Paris Olympics.

Three-time world champion Grant Holloway punched his ticket to the Paris Olympics on Friday in the 110m hurdles at the US trials, while Noah Lyles and Sha'Carri Richardson cruised into the 200m finals. Holloway won the 110 hurdles final in 12.86secs, the fastest time in the world this year, with Freddie Crittenden second in a personal best 12.93 and Daniel Roberts third in a personal best 12.96.

Skye Blakely is missing this week’s Olympic Trials after rupturing her right Achilles on Wednesday during practice. The 19-year-old top contender sustained the injury while practising a tumbling pass on floor exercise at the trial’s venue in Minneapolis. Blakely received medical attention and was later carried off the podium by staff, leaving the arena in a wheelchair.

It was hello, then goodbye for the stelar and now injured sprinter at the Jamaican trials, as she failed to fully recover from and Achilles tear and was forced to pull out of the competition and renounce her Paris Summer Games bid.

Kassidy Cook and Sarah Bacon became the first divers on the American team to secure their spots for Paris with a victory in the women’s synchronised 3-meter springboard on Monday’s trials at the University of Tennessee Aquatic Center. Totalling 629.82 points with two rounds of dives, the winning duo from Minneapolis, Minnesota closed out the finals with a front 2 1/2 somersaults with one twist.

Eight Olympic spots were up for grabs in the women’s individual recurve event at the Final Olympic Qualifier in Antalya, Türkiye and seven countries — Azerbaijan, India, Iran, Moldova, Poland, Slovakia and Ukraine— gained their first women's quotas for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with the final spot to be decided via world ranking.

Seven-time gold medalist, Katie Ledecky won the women’s 400m freestyle Saturday at the 2024 US Olympic swimming trials finals, clinching a spot on Team USA for the fourth time. The only swimmer to have a sub-4-minute time coming into the prelims, she clocked in at 3:58, finishing nearly five seconds ahead of Pan American Games record-holder Paige Madden —who did not qualify for the Olympic team. 

Seven-time Olympic gold medallist Caeleb Dressel brings a new perspective to the pressure-packed US Olympic swimming trials on Saturday, where he and freestyle phenomenon Katie Ledecky are set to star again in the fierce fight for Paris Games berths. Dressel and Ledecky bring formidable credentials to the nine-day meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana, where only a top-two finish can secure an individual race berth in Paris.
