Femke Bol, fresh from two golds and a bronze at the European Championships, admits she is looking forward to what she says will be a "nice battle" with American arch-rival Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone at the Paris Olympics. Bol was one of the stars of the championships in Rome, dominating her speciality event, the 400m hurdles, and going on to anchor the women's 4x400m relay team to victory while also picking up third place in the mixed relay.

Karsten Warholm will make his long-awaited outdoor debut just 57 days out from the Paris Olympics when he takes to his home track in Oslo on Thursday in the sixth meeting on the 15-meet Diamond League circuit, Agence France-Presse reported ahead of the event. 

American Rai Benjamin won the men's 400m hurdles in a world-leading 46.64 seconds at the USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix on Saturday as Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone posted an impressive 200m victory, Agence France-Presse reported Saturday. 

Norwegian star Karsten Warholm got his first taste of victory at the age of seven when he won a medal in jeans at a local road race in the picturesque town of Ulsteinvik in the heart of Norway.

Home athlete Sydney McLaughlin broke the 400 metres hurdles world record for the fourth time as she won her first world title amid frenzy at Hayward Field, becoming the first woman to break 51 seconds with an unearthly clocking of 50.68sec.

The message is out there - "Tell your people to contact my people and let’s give THE PEOPLE what they want." Pure hype. Bring it on.

Whether the then Times Athletics Correspondent, Neil Allen, still believes it was “the outstanding British athletics performance of all time” is something I will have to ask him on the next occasion our paths cross.  But what can be safely said, 47-years to the day after the performance in question, is that David Hemery’s achievement in winning 400 metres hurdles gold at the Mexico City Games of 1968, in a world record of 48.12sec, is a diamond that will always adorn Olympic history.
