The city of Šiauliai played host to the country’s celebration of Olympic Day , together with the 100th anniversary of the Lithuanian Olympic Movement, last Saturday in a festival with more than a hundred different sports and entertainment activities. 20,000 people are estimated to have attended the day-long event for a chance try out various sports, chat with professional athletes, meet national Olympians, engage in games and tournaments, and join educational and Olympic educational events.

The decision was taken by the Board of the European Olympic Academies (EOA) at the EOA Congress in Vilnius, Lithuania. The event, organised by the Lithuanian Olympic Academy (LOA), was attended by delegates from 22 European Olympic Academies, as well as representatives from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Olympic Academy (IOA) and the European Olympic Committees (EOC).

The Lithuanian National Olympic Committee (LTOK) and Lithuanian Olympic Academy have held their annual "Move Week" which saw a record number of more than 65,000 people take part in health-promoting events across the country.
