Olympics and Paralympics host country France has banned its female athletes from wearing the hijab while competing in the upcoming Games in Paris, sparking outrage from human rights groups, athletes and sports fans who say it is a form of "racist gender discrimination". While the decision was announced in September the debate has reignited online with the opening ceremony to what is being touted as the "first gender-equal Olympics" just days away.

Bloemfontein’s anti-doping laboratory in South Africa has had its accreditation suspension extended for a second time, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announced in a press release Tuesday. In March 2024, WADA imposed a six-month suspension due to multiple non-conformities with the International Standard for Laboratories (ISL). The imposed extension for a second period of up to six months was granted on the basis of the laboratory’s request, in order to have sufficient time to address the issues related to the suspension.

The memorial ceremony for victims of the 1972 Munich Olympics terror attack at the upcoming Paris Games will be held in a secret location outside of the Olympic Village, Times of Israel reported Sunday. The ceremony was originally scheduled for 24 July at the Paris City Hall, but was cancelled due to concerns that it may be targeted by extremists, given heightened antisemitic and anti-Israel sentiment.

Czechia’s Barbora Krejcikova clinched her second Grand Slam singles title at Wimbledon on Saturday, defeating Italy's Jasmine Paolini 6-2, 2-6, 6-4. The 31st seed broke down in tears when she saw her name etched on the same Centre Court honours board which also recognises the 1998 final victory of her childhood mentor Jana Novotna. Her win comes 26 years after Novotna, who died of cancer in 2017 at the age of 49, claimed the Wimbledon title after two runners-up finishes.

Canadian prodigy Summer McIntosh, expected to be one of the stars of the Paris Olympics, has already made her mark in swimming, and nobody in her family or entourage is surprised.
