The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has announced its Independent Observer (IO) programme teams in preparation for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris. WADA’s IO programme is designed to enhance athlete and public confidence as to the quality, effectiveness and reliability of anti-doping programmes during the Games.

The next Africa Cup of Nations will be played in Morocco from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026, Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe announced after a virtual executive committee at their headquarters in Cairo on Friday evening. Originally scheduled for June and July 2025, the AFCON was moved to avoid a clash with the inaugural Club World Cup in the United States from 15 June to 13 July next year.

Ted Cruz criticises USA Basketball for Caitlin Clark's Olympic exclusion

US senator Ted Cruz voiced criticism over Caitlin Clark's exclusion from the Olympics, calling out the USA Basketball selection committee on social media on Wednesday in response to the WNBA recording its most-watched game in more than 20 years. The game between Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky Sunday marked the most-watched WNBA game on any network in 23 years with an average of 2.25 million people tuning in to CBS with the Fever’s 91-83 victory peaking viewership at nearly 3 million viewers.

IOC president says urban sports crucial to Olympics' future

Thomas Bach emphasised the importance of urban sports for the future of the Olympics as he kicked off the second stop of the Olympic Qualifying Series yesterday in Budapest. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) president has been impressed with the inaugural series of the OQS so far, with the Olympic trials which determine which athletes will compete in the Paris 2024 attracting thousands of spectators to watch over 450 athletes from more than 120 National Federations compete in breaking, BMX freestyle, skateboarding and sport climbing in a festival-like event fusing sport, art, music and culture in a festival atmosphere.
