Government scraps main legacy plan for London 2012 to save money

June 17 - A scheme to provide free swimming for the under-16s and over-60s, which was supposed to be one key legacies of London hosting the Olympics and Paralympics in 2012, has been scrapped as part of £73 million ($108 million) worth of cuts announced today by the Government.









Newson changes mind over Powerlifting World Championships

June 16 - Zoe Newson (pictured), one of the brightest young powerlifters in the country who is tipped for success at the London 2012 Paralympics, will be competing at this year's International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Powerlifting World Championships in Kuala Lumpur next month despite initially requesting not to be considered for selection.




UK Sport begin advertising for new chief executive

June 16 - A search to find a new chief executive to lead UK Sport into the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics was launched today after the announcement last week that John Steele is leaving to join the Rugby Football Union.
