Palestinian athletes told to take "resistance" to the Olympics

Eight Palestinian athletes taking part in the Paris Olympics will be symbols of "resistance" during the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza, a Palestinian minister said Sunday as the official delegation left the occupied West Bank. This will be the eighth time Palestinian athletes have taken part in the Olympics since 1996, but Olympic committee head Jibril Rajoub said the athletes had never felt so much attention.

Palestinian Olympic head hopes Olympics will spotlight war in Gaza

Head of the Palestinian Olympic Committee, Jibril Rajoub, said Wednesday he hoped the Paris Olympic Games would bring more attention to the war in Gaza and the "Israeli occupation of the West Bank," Times of Israel reported last week. So far the country is set to participate in the Games with one athlete confirmed in taekwondo while other hopefuls are training to meet the International Olympic Committee standards to have priority for wildcards. Rajoub said in a press conference earlier this month that Palestine will have a minimum of 6-8 (athletes), three of which are likely to come from Gaza.

Global Summit for Palestine threatens IOC 'boycott' unless Israel is banned from Olympics

The organising committee of the Global Summit for Palestine, initiated by the European Muslim Forum (EMF), has called for the resignation of Thomas Bach and accused the IOC of 'double standards'. Nkosi Mandela, a member of the committee, flew in from South Africa to personally deliver a letter to the members of the IOC in which she issued an ultimatum: "Expel Israel or face a boycott".
