Authorities in the Kenyan city of Eldoret have removed the controversial statues of Faith Kipyegon and Eliud Kipchoge after the outrage shown by the city's residents. There were three athletes in total depicted, who the other was supposed to represent has yet to be confirmed.

In Kenya, athletics is practically the national sport and Faith Kipyegon its latest star. So the poor execution of the statue created as a tribute has been met with a mixture of laughter, mockery, embarrassment and anger.

Day 15 was the penultimate day of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games before the closing ceremony officially brings it all to an end on Sunday and passes the baton on to Los Angeles 2028. It was the busiest day of Olympic action since September 2000 with 39 different gold medals up for grabs.

In the 800m, Great Britain's Keely Hodgkinson won without problems.

With the Opening Ceremony on 26 July and some competitions starting the day before, athletics will be at the heart of the second week of Paris 2024, with great battles and great moments to prove once again why it is called the 'King Sport' of the Olympic Games.

A send-off ceremony for the Kenya's delegation to the Paris Olympic Games was held at the State House in Nairobi, presided over by Head of State, William Ruto. He handed over the national flag to Team Kenya, led by rugby 7s player Vincent Onyala and para-rower Asiya Mohammed Sururu.

It was the 30-year-old's first race of the year after pulling out of last month's Prefontaine Classic Diamond League in Oregon with a muscle injury.
