The Olympic torch has returned to metropolitan France after an emotionally charged Ocean Relay. To celebrate its return, freediver Alice Modolo symbolically retrieved it from the sea in the harbor of Villefranche-sur-Mer, the birthplace of global freediving.

The return of the Olympic Torch to Brittany was welcomed with enthusiasm and provided an excellent opportunity to showcase the Morbihan, an Atlantic region with an attractive coastline and a rich historical heritage.

This Thursday, the Olympic Torch made a leap back in time to explore the unique medieval heritage of the Aude. Nearly 110 Torchbearers carried the Flame from the fortress of Peyrepertuse to Carcassonne. Dimitri Pavadé, one of the relay captains, was in Carcassonne and Olivia Ruiz, one of France's most popular singers, lit the Olympic cauldron.

The world's second-largest steelmaker, ArcelorMittal, has provided low-carbon steel for the Olympic torch which arrives in France on Wednesday. However, environmental campaign groups claim the company is using its involvement in Paris 2024 to hide its failure to invest in decarbonisation.

The Olympic flame set sail from the Greek port of Piraeus today to France where the Olympic Torch Relay will continue its epic journey. Crossing the Mediterranean on board the Belem, the flame is scheduled to reach Marseille on 8 May.

The first French torchbearer on Greek soil has been announced. Paris 2024 has chosen Laure Manaudou, a three-time Olympic swimming medallist and captain of the Olympic torch relay.

Less than three and a half months before the opening of the Paris 2024 Games, the Olympic flame will be lit on Tuesday in Ancient Olympia, Greece, to begin a journey that will take it from the Acropolis to French Polynesia before arriving in the French capital on 26 July.

Paris 2024 President Tony Estanguet has defended the cost to French Departments of hosting the Olympic Torch Relay following reports that several have indicated they will not take part due to the expense.
