The president of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, Casey Wasserman, has called for French unity amid a politically charged atmosphere in the run-up to the Olympics.

Shilese Jones withdrew from the US Olympic gymnastics trials on Saturday, a day after she injured her left knee on a warm-up vault and had to opt out of three apparatus. Jones, a world championships bronze medallist last year, landed awkwardly on the vault shortly before competition began and limped off with the help of her coach.

Two-time reigning world 200m champion Shericka Jackson delivered the fastest time in Saturday's qualifying heats in the event at the Jamaican Olympic trials. A day after winning the 100m crown to qualify for the Paris Olympics, Jackson had the best heat time in season-best 22.67secs (-0.9 m/sec wind) at the national stadium in Kingston. Jackson is a major favourite to win the 200 final on Sunday.

Three-time world champion Grant Holloway punched his ticket to the Paris Olympics on Friday in the 110m hurdles at the US trials, while Noah Lyles and Sha'Carri Richardson cruised into the 200m finals. Holloway won the 110 hurdles final in 12.86secs, the fastest time in the world this year, with Freddie Crittenden second in a personal best 12.93 and Daniel Roberts third in a personal best 12.96.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) authorised six Russians and two more Belarusians to participate in the Paris Olympic Games raising the total count to 47, according to a third list expanded to judo and canoeing. The IOC published the initial list on 15 June and expanded it on Thursday with 39 athletes in tennis, shooting and rowing.

Jibril Rajoub, the president of the Palestinian Olympic Committee, is calling for Israel to be banned from the 2024 Paris Olympics over the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.
