The Netherlands' Sifan Hassan has hit out at the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) for releasing news of the decision to ban her coach Alberto Salazar for four-years during the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships here.

Christian Coleman of the United States won the men’s world 100 metres title here in 9.76sec, the fastest time recorded this year, on a night when The Netherlands' Sifan Hassan completed what could be the first part of a golden double here as she won the women’s 10,000m title at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships.

Had it not already been taken, the International Association of Athletics Federation World Championships that start here tomorrow could have used the phrase associated with the Sochi 2014 Winter Games: "Hot. Cool. Yours".

The final 16 Diamond League champions of the season will be decided in Brussels tomorrow night (September 6), as the International Association of Athletics Federations' season-long series concludes.

Just over a week after breaking the 23-year-old women’s world mile record, Sifan Hassan has switched her focus to this weekend’s International Association of Athletics Federations Diamond League meeting at the London Stadium – and her favourite distance, the 5,000 metres.

Sifan Hassan produced a stupendous final lap in the women’s mile here to finish in 4min 12.33sec – thus breaking the 23-year-old world record of 4:12.56 held by Russia’s 1996 Olympic 800 metres and 1,500m champion Svetlana Masterkova.

Caster Semenya came back, saw and re-conquered at the Prefontaine Classic meeting  held at the temporary venue of Stanford, California today as she won by almost three seconds in the women’s 800 metres at the seventh International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Diamond League meetings of the season.

Sifan Hassan from The Netherlands and Julien Wanders from Switzerland set world records within minutes of each other today during the Herculis 5km race in Monaco, although they were not the fastest times ever run for the distance. 

Olympic 400 metres champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo demonstrated that it may be a little while yet before double European gold medallist Dina Asher-Smith can rule the sprinting world as she defeated Britain’s rising star over 200m at the International Association of Athletics Federations Diamond League meeting in Birmingham.

Russia's 20-year-old high jumper Danil Lysenko, competing as an Authorised Neutral Athlete (ANA), took his first major gold on the opening day of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Indoor Championships at Arena Birmingham, defeating the dominant figure in his event, Qatar's Mutaz Essa Barshim.

On a night when a major power cut in northern Brussels affected operations at the second International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Diamond League final of the season at the King Baudouin Stadium, world 1,500 metres champion Faith Kipyegon and Sifan Hassan of The Netherlands lit up the evening with an all-out surge around the final lap that eventually saw the Kenyan edge ahead to claim her first Diamond Trophy.

Olympic champions Ruth Jebet and Omar McLeod, hoping to build on their recent successes here with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships in London just over a month away, both finished their events limping heavily.
